In order to enhance the freshmen’s understanding of university life and study, and quickly adapt to the new life, the orientation meeting for undergraduate students 2021 of SEM was held in the evening of August 31 in classroom106 of the Mechanical and Electrical Building. The meeting was divided into two sessions: one for management class and one for business class. Li Xiang and Yin Xiyao, counselors of students 2021 hosted the meeting and all the students and headmasters of each class attended the meeting.
At the meeting, both counselors started with the question of “what is a counselor like in your eyes?” to help students picture the image and roles of counselors first, and then introduced themselves. They emphasized that counselors are the companions and guides for students’ healthy growth, and are responsible for students’ ideological and political education, daily management, employment guidance, mental health counseling and other activities. Their warm and humorous conversation revealed their concern and ardent expectation for the students and brought them closer to each other.
After that, Li Xiang and Yin Xiyao introduced the temporary leader of each class and instructed that they should shoulder their responsibilities, be careful and patient, and serve their classmates well. At the same time, Li and Yin also hoped that students can appreciate the hard work of the leaders and actively cooperate with the them. The leaders introduced themselves briefly and promised to the counselor and students that they would live up to the trust of them, do their job well and serve the students with a will during this period.
Then the two counselors gave a detailed introduction of the recent schedule and answered students’ questions. They hoped that students will arrange their time reasonably, deal with matters calmly, attend to the coming entrance exams, and wished them satisfactory results in the entrance exams. They also reminded students of their safety from frauds.
At the end of the meeting, the two counselors put forward several requirements for everyone: first, be polite; second, form good habits; third, be self-disciplined; fourth, have a plan; and fifth, maintain a steady mind. They hope that students can inherit the good tradition of USTB, grow up to be progressive and active students, cherish their time in school and fulfill their dreams.
