Recently, Cornell University announced that Professor Jinhua Zhao, an alumnus of class 1983 of SEM, will officially take office as Dean of the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management on July 1.
Cornell University is the world’s top research universities and one of the Ivy League universities, ranking 21st in QS World University Rankings 2022. The Dyson School is shared between the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The school cultivates the world’s top talents proficient in food and agricultural economics, management, environment and resource economics and international and development economics.
Upon Jinhua Zhao taking office, Andrew Karolyi, Dean of Cornell University Business School, said, “Jinhua is a top-notch scholar, and has an excellent track record as an administrator. His arrival is inspiring, which shows that the overall strength of Dyson College has been greatly enhanced.” Benjamin Houlton, Dean of CALS, said, “We are very fortunate to have Jinhua’s expertise in global climate change and energy economics at the helm of the Dyson School during this important time in human history. I am looking forward to building upon the synergies between our colleges to mobilize even more impactful climate and environmental projects together and contributing to world development.”
Jinhua Zhao
As the double-employed professor in the Department of Economics and Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Economics of Michigan State University, Jinhua Zhao is the editorial board member of international academic journals such as Annual Review of Resource Economics and Frontier of Economics in China. He was the former co-editor of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Advisory Committee of the Climate and Energy Committee, and co-editor of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management (JEEM).
Jinhua Zhao obtained a bachelor’s degree in management from the Department of Management Science of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel (now University of Science and Technology Beijing) in 1987, a master’s degree in economics from the University of Guelph in 1992, and a doctorate degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1997. His research focus is resource and environmental economics, which gained support from the National Natural Science Foundation of America, Ministry of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency and National Aeronautics and Space Administration. And he had many influential and innovative achievements in environmental control, emission trading, adaptation to climate change, international climate negotiation, renewable energy, decision-making under uncertain conditions, technology selection and technology diffusion, international trade and environment, etc.
